On daily living standard - carers claim? was created by headabovethewater
I receive pip daily living at standard rate.
I work 16 hours from home, would my daughter, age 20, be able to claim carers allowance. She does all gp hospital appointments with me, cooks cleans and generally helps. If we can is it the same rigmarole/humiliation as requesting the pip? I'm not sure if my working cancels out carers allowance? Many thanks for any advice.

Hi headabovethewater
Your daughter would have to show that she cares for you, for 35hrs a week and that she does not earn more than £128 week after tax and then she could see if she was eligible. It's much easier than PIP.

Hi, depending on your daughter's circumstances it is worth knowing that separately from carer's allowance there is Carer's Credit, which simply makes good the National Insurance record of a carer who is not paying it through work and getting too much income for carer's allowance. It doesn't pay out any cash but saves damage to pension prospects. Few advice services know about it so I mention it in hopes it will help some reader.
Once tipped off by a friend I have got it, having taken early retirement and not jobseeking due to caring, but income just too high for means tested benefits. Also, the caring time minimum threshold is only 20 hours a week, which can be certified by a GP or other role persons.
Best wishes, Denby
