PIP - Mobility / Moving around was created by longtimelurker
Hi,

I am struggling with answering this question. I suffer from chronic pain and fatigue / fibromyalgia. I am always in pain. I spend significant amounts of time in bed due to the pain and will therefore remain in bed and homebound.

During the warm weather, I can walk with pain, as the pain is reduced.During the colder months, it takes me 1 hour + to get out of bed and start my day.

Will the fact I can not walk (or will not walk) due to the pain and fatigue - be taking into consideration? I will also avoid peak times, crowds etc. I currently work limited hours, and my hours are flexible to assist with managing my pain and fatigue.

Thank you

Hi longtimelurker

There is always a challenge in explaining how you manage your day and your mobility when you have a chronic pain condition which is variable. You need to talk as if the person who is reading it - knows nothing about fibromyalgia. You need to be clear how much time you are unable to walk - whether that is the majority of the time or part of the time. You will also need to be clear about how many hours you work, what changes have been made for you, and how often you can't work because of the pain you are in. Your challenge here will be to give a clear picture and stop them focussing simply on your work.

Thank you very much for your comments, they are extremely valuable.

I had not planned to discuss work and adjustments made for me - of which there are many but I will definitely spend time doing so. I think I will send also my HR file which includes Access to work assessment which should hopefully help my PIP application.

Thanks again.
