Pre assessment call? was created by Pilly
Had a telephone appointment with my GP this morning, he called on a withheld number, gotta have a few tests etc and GP is extremely concerned as I’m so anemic, anyhoo about 20 mins after my GP call, I had another withheld number so I thought it was my GP with either another appointment or to ask more questions.
Turned out it was a lady from capita to tell me I would be getting a letter within the next two weeks for a telephone assessment and asking if I could get some support for my call, which I can not.
I told her it’s just me and although my daughters help me they don’t know the true extent of my issues due to me being ashamed of them and with them having young toddlers I didn’t think it appropriate to have children around for such a call.
I was so hot and shaky when I realised it wasn’t my GP but the lady who I spoke to was so nice and seemed genuinely concerned that I wouldn’t be able to get support for my call, she even asked if I could give her details of someone like a family member so she could contact them to be here for the call - why do they call though if they send letters out anyway?

Hi Pilly
They call for a number of reasons, to confirm that the claimant will be at home on the day and does not have an appointment to be else where.
A number of claimants state that they never received the letter informing them that they will be contacted or they never opened the letter. I have come across many claimants who never open letters, especially brown envelopes.
If a claimant receives a phone call about an appointment they may open their mail if they are pre warned.

Thank you Gary, that makes sense.
I was just a bit worried when she kept asking me about someone to be with me when I took my assessment call and asking if she could have a phone number of someone to ask if they could support me during my assessment

Hi Pilly
The assessors can do a 3 way conference call, if you cannot get someone to be with you at the assessment then they will try and contact a third party who knows/supports you to give you support during the assessment. For some claimants it is an ordeal to attend such a meeting.
