Cut off point financially was created by pingusolid
I have a ________ resulting in physical and mental disibilities since ____ . S term memory and cognitive stuff is permanently broken. This took ages to write out. Several days.
I'm receiving ESA support group , PIP upper mobility & care ( DLA to PIP - went from lower DLA to upper PIP) , Housing Benefit, Council Tax support. I'm in supported housing. A council property. I pay a fee for support costs.
My savings and capital will soon reach the 16k cut off point. Maybe November. I've become scared of spending money due to the ESA dept. Having had my bank statements for 5 or 6 years. They know my spending habits. Well, that's what I assume. I suppose because of the deprivation of capital thing I've become paranoid. Because of PIP much more money is coming in. (DLA was under £200, PIP is 600 every four weeks) PIP runs for a few years. Another reason money hasn't been spent is due to the covid lock down. I spend most time alone and no longer drive a car but have a mobility scooter.
- What will happen when ESA stops ?
- Will I be forced to apply for UC ?
- Will that mean more forms and an interview or a straight change over ?
I haven't paid enough national insurance in the past so was never allowed contributory benefits. I think I'll be having to pay for everything myself for a while such as rent, council tax, increased internet & phone osts (bt basic currently). But having never been in this situation before have no idea of the road ahead.
- Zero income claim ?
- Or is PIP now counted as income ?
I no longer have asocial worker or any _____ rehab support workers. _______ helped with last years PIP application and accompanied me to the interview, but they're not benefits experts. The local CAB is off due to covid.
I really don't want to be put on UC. I will never be able to comply with their demands and I guess will be sanctioned very quickly. ( paranoia, fear & anger). I'm very slow on the up take due to ________. I've been unemployed for over a decade and then some.
Advise and info would be appreciated. Not even sure that my GP would write a letter due to the surgery not allowing patients in yet. It's all very confusing.
Just remebered that in january 2020 I was sent a form to apply for Severe Disability Payment. It was filled in and posted but I've yet to hear the result.
I had advice from this forum earlier this year to spend some money so, bought a new scooter which was needed and has really helped. I need some replacement disability items again (stuff wears out) so will be purchasing them soon. This will not make much of a dent in savings though.

Once your savings and assets exceed £16,000 you will no longer be entitled to Income Related ESA, if you are not also entitled to Contribution Based ESA then you ESA will cease being paid.
Your PIP will not be affected.
If you have more than £16,000 then you cannot make a claim for Universal Credit as it is also a means tested benefit with the same savings limit as ESA(IR).
If your savings then drop back below £16,000 and you are entitled to Contribution Based ESA then you can ask for the ESA(IR) to be added to your claim again, if you are not then you will need to make a claim for UC.
The claim for UC will be new so you will need to provide a Fit Note stating you are not fit for work and then you will receive a UC50 to complete and there will be an assessment to see whether an award can be made of either Limited Capability for Work (WRAG) or Limited Capability for Work Related Activity (SG).
