PIP - reapplying - how early can I do this? was created by CrazyCatLady
Hi Peeps - this question may have been answered before but I could not see it. My Husband's PIP is due to end in March 2021 - I am trying to work out how early I can reapply for it. Plus with COVID-19 what impact is it having on the assessments (he has to have a home visit as he is not able to attend the assessments). Or should I just wait until he receives the pack from DWP - we have a mobility car due to his medical issues, but I don't want a gap between the PIP ending, then waiting for a decision before we can get another car. The car ends in August 2021 so we have a 5 month gap (this was due to the fact that it took us a while to make decision as to whether to get a vehicle). Thanks in advance for any insight you can give me (i could be worrying over nothing but it seems everything is delayed at the moment for obvious and understandable reasons).

Hi Claire C

Is you husband's is his PIP claim coming to an end or is it up for review? Either way you should receive a letter from the DWP either asking whether your husband wants to put in for a new claim or be sent a review form. You can ring and ask what is happening or you can wait for a letter to arrive. If nothing has happened by the first week in Jan - I would ring and ask. I would have expected you to have received some type of notice by now.

The DWP are not doing any home assessments - they are doing either phone or paper-based ones. Phone assessments are widely used. Paper-based are sometimes used when a claimant has provided proof from a medical profession that a phone assessment would cause them overwhelming psychological distress, or if they don't have the mental or physical capacity to hold a phone conversation.

Hi Bis - it was awarded to March 2021 so presume it will be a review? I will have to check the paperwork whether it says 'review'. Ok thank you - will note it for January 2021 - stay safe

Hi Clare C

If it is for March 2021, you need to be ringing and asking where your form is. As I said in my previous post I would have expected you to hear by now. The review forms come out with at least six months notice. Don't leave it until the last moment, or your husband could find himself with no money.

Hi, mine is due to end Feb 2nd and I had a letter today to say reapply so they are going out 3 months before the award ends. I always thought it was 6 months. With Covid delays and Christmas I hope it will be done in time for Feb

If you have been asked to renew your award rather than have it reassessed then the three months is correct but you should check with the DWP as they are supposed to be extending awards although this will not affect the renewal.
