Mandatory reconsideration increasing award length was created by Sammy
Hi, I’ve just received my AP report but haven’t received a decision. It seems like they’re going to give me a 2 year award but was hoping for a longer award to be able to use the Motability scheme. Does anyone have any advice or experience in getting a longer award through mandatory reconsideration?

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Sammy
Award lengths have become shorter. We only know of a handful of people who have successfully extended their award length date and only a couple of those were at the MR stage. It doesn't mean you shouldn't try - but it is a challenge.

Hi Sammy, if it's the report you have got but the decision hasn't been done yet, if you are very quick you could try writing in, politely and carefully explaining any points where the assessor has made a recommendation that does not match your evidence and form statements.
We did this recently where the assessor claimed she had "ongoing specialist input so some further improvement can be expected", which [very sadly] simply is not true, "so recommend 18 month award" and after my letter the decision was for 3 years which is what you are looking for.
Best wishes, Denby
