I have my PIP telephone assessment in a few days. I have severe ME/CFS so won't be able to do the full assessment without breaks. I am planning to tell the assessor at the beginning that I will need a 15-20 minute break every 20-25 minutes. My partner will be with me during the call.
I've seen in the guide that you can ask for breaks. Do people have any experience with how assessors tend to react to this and how long they will give me? Is there anything I can quote to them if they refuse or any other tips anyone has?
My partner would be happy to continue the call whilst I am resting but I see they can be difficult about this, especially as I won't be present during this time.
It's an interesting question. Yes, you are entitled to breaks - but I'm pretty certain most assessors won't envisage one of that length. By the way please don't think I'm suggesting that is too long - because I'm not - it's just that we know all assessors are no sympathetic. I don't know of any specific entitlement that is written down. You could have a look at the government to guide to assessors and see if it has anything in it. www.gov.uk/government/publications/perso...-sheets/pip-handbook
