Just phoned up Atos to have my assessment recorded next week and they have said it will have to be cancelled and go back in a queue.
I have been waiting since July and now have to wait until an assessor agrees to be recorded. I thought all assessments were recorded as long as you gave them notice. What is their problem? If all assessments are carried out fairly and honestly, why would they have any objections to being recorded? Every person should request a recording of their assessment. What will they do then? Put us all back in a queue.

Assessors cannot be required to be recorded.

There are lots of reasons why someone would not want to be recorded, based on our experience on the forum, the reasons have little to do with the assessor being caught out on the recording, good assessors will do a good assessment and bad ones a substandard one whether they are recorded or not.

We travelled 20 miles with our daughter to her booked assessment a few years back, only to be bounced because none of five assessors would agree to be recorded. The manager had not bothered to check during the fortnight's notice we had, which they acknowledged, duly given. A decent assessor there who had given a fair assessment to a very disabled friend I took there previously, had said she had never been recorded before, she was a bit nervous but we all got into the swing of it. But she must have left. I heard mutterings about fear of being plastered over social media, tricky, as anyone who did that would have broken the agreement you have to sign, but once it's out there you can't get it back, if this was really true. The subsequent recorded assessment was not aggressive but still so inaccurate/peppered with untruths in the report that we had to undergo the ordeal of MR and appeal, eventually regaining the enhanced for both. At the time I didn't know about insisting on the report before decision, or I'd have politely taken it to pieces at that stage as I did successfully last time. I can only agree with your cynicism!
Best wishes, it is worth waiting for your recording, just be sure they don't try on marking you down as refusing assessment. Denby
