Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Mark
I quite agree with you, not all courses have summer camps, I used to choose the course with a summer camp as it was nice to get away and be with like minded people. You can meet some wonderful people at these summer camps.

Hi Mark,
Former OU student here!
Residential courses are no longer required for OU degrees. Also, all study is now online - there aren't face to face tutorials or study days any more.
It's worth checking their fees & funding page, too, as there are some bursaries available. www.open.ac.uk/courses/fees-and-funding
Good luck & best wishes!

Thanks Gary and cynical_optimist
Had a look at website this morning. Good to know about summer camp not being mandatory but £3k for 60 credit course! You have to do six of them. I’d have to be really committed to a subject to even consider it.
The problem is when I did my access course back in 90’s the LEA classed it as a year zero. Then when I tried to start a degree although I walked away due to panic I think seeing loads of people pile into the auditorium I still took that term/semesters maintenance grant. This pre dates student loans.
So I wouldn’t be able to get funding for at least one year, possibly one and a half years.
If I won the lottery (or premium bonds) I would certainly give it serious consideration. To be honest I would not even know what to study.
I often go to the library take out a book, get it home, read first few pages and then lose interest. So it would be a risky thing to commit to at those prices.
What did you both study out of curiosity?

Hi Gary
I’ve been reading a book about the millennium problems. One million dollars would be nice!

There's another outfit called Futurelearn who do lots of very short courses, all online. At least some are free unless you want the printed certificate, but a mentor on the one I am doing [NHS 'peer leader', not sure how far I'll get with it] - pointed out, you can screenshot the completion page for free. Hope this may be more suitable to you than some scary commitment. Denby
