NOTIFYING DWP RE STAY IN HOSPITAL was created by KEITH ASHWORTH
Are there any pitfalls when notifying DWP of a stay in hospital ? I realise benefits will be stopped during the period, but is there an additional inquisition to see if it has affected the qualification for PIP ?

Hi KA

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

First of all, payment of the awards is suspended, the actual award remains in place as long as the claimant continues to meet the criteria.

There is no suspension for the first 28 days in a hospital or a care home. You must contact the DWP if go over the 28 days, the days you are admitted and discharged do not count towards the total, or there will be a recoverable overpayment.

After 28 days the Daily Living component is suspended if the care is being funded by the NHS or the Local Authority. It is not suspended if the claimant is fully funding their care.

After 28 days if the claimant is in a hospital then the Mobility component is suspended.

If your PIP stops, it will be paid again as soon as you come out of hospital. If you come out of hospital but have to go back in within 28 days your benefit will stop again as soon as you are staying in hospital again.
