Hi
I was reading about the scoring on wca and it says you have to score 15 points which I do.
Then it said if you didn't fit into a certain criteria you would be put in a lower group. So I'm confused. Which is it ...you score 15 points or you have to fit in a certain criteria to be declared unfit for work activities ? Thank you

Hi PJ

It can be confusing but to get LCWRA you have to fit 2 criteria:

1- the first criteria is that you need to score 15 points.
2- the second criteria is that you need to meet one or more of the relevant descriptors, or meet one of the associated Exceptional Circumstances rules.

The relevant descriptors and the Exceptional Circumstances are listed in the Claiming ESA guides in the members area. (look at page 21 and 29).

Hi Gary
Thank you for your reply.
Can I come back with a couple of questions.
If you put the answer as 'varies' on the form does it go against you and how do they look at it?
For example.
In the morning for the first few hours I am stuff and sore , I could not walk 50 metres or do anything else.
The rest of the day varies. Some times I can walk 50 metres and more some days not. I seldom can do it repeatedly ( what ever that means I suppose?)
I cannot easily use my left hand for anything. My right can be ok and sometimes not. It takes two hands to use a keyboard properly so can I use one or not?
I would be grateful for your feedback.
Thank you

Hi PJ

You need to explain how it varies, what the assessors are looking for is the "majority of the days", if for instance using your example that you are stiff and sore for the first few hours (2 hrs) but the rest of the day you are ok then you would not be eligible to score as the majority of the day you are ok.

It is like saying you have good days and bad days, what the assessors wants to know is, how many good days do you have each week, if it is the majority of the days then you will not score points.

I always say to people you are painting a picture in words about how your condition affects you the majority of the days unlike DLA which was majority of the time.

For PIP activities must be completed reliably, this means

• Safely – in a fashion that is unlikely to cause harm to themselves or to another person.
• To a necessary and appropriate standard – given the nature of the activity.
• Repeatedly – as often as is reasonably required.
• In a timely manner – in a reasonable time period.
