PIP a few questions was created by VIA
Hello everyone,
I am “newish” and wish everyone well.
On 02 December I received the PIP It is time to review to return by 23/12.
I have a few questions.
1- It reads “..return to us by 23 December 2020”
Is it acceptable to send it back to them literally on the 23/12? (I would use special delivery to have proof and tracking at every stage)
Or do they have to receive it by the 23r?
2- I feel I need an extension as I am not well enough to do too much in one day.
Is it best to ask for an extension now or better to leave it nearer the time on the 21st or 22nd of December call them and ask for one then.
Do they refuse extensions? How long are they for normally if given?
3- I was thinking for the first time to ask someone who has seen me deteriorating to write a letter I could send to PIP.
Should that letter be addressed to PIP (as the writer may feel more comfortable knowing his letter is only going to be used for that purpose) or addressed to ‘To whom it may concern”?

I got a letter in September saying my pip entitlement was extended till October 2021. Now I got this PIP time to review award form.
Suppose they were to say in 1 or 2 months time that I was not entitled to PIP (I am on 2 standard rates even though I believe I should have got enhanced rates, does that mean my pip entitlement till October 2021 would be stopped?
5- On our members guides only I saw somewhere a 2 hours free video to watch, but I cannot find it anymore. It was a video to help claim PIP on mental health grounds.
6- Also I was considering doing the 2 hours zoom video call next week on 09 December but I do not have zoom, I do not now how easy it is to install. Do other members see other members participating in this video course. If so, and I was to participate could I still view the person explaining the course on the board maybe, and could I not use the video so that nobody can see me.
Sorry I ask so many questions.
Thank you very much.

Hi Olympia
I will try and answer your questions in order.
1 - DWP would want to receive the form by 23 December, I would never take any chances especially this time of year, I would contact DWP and explain your current situation and ask for an extension due to the festive period. Royal mail have listed date for last post before Christmas.
2 - It is always best to ask for an extension sooner rather than later, you will need to explain why you need an extension. You may need to ask for an additional extension on the one you have. If it is the first time you ask for an extension then they usually give you two weeks, sometimes it is longer. I have only hard of a refusal if it is for the 2nd or 3rd extension, it usually depends on who you speak to at the DWP.
3 - A supporting letter from someone who gives you support on a regular basis does carry some weight, they will need to explain what support they give, how often and why. They should include their name and address and sign it. you can add the letter with your other supporting documents, it can be addressed to PIP.
4 - Whenever a new decision is made that takes precedence over other decisions. So the answer would be yes, if you were awarded zero points then your claim would stop.
5 - I have never seen the video, so I cannot comment. I have had a quick look but no sign of it, all that I am aware of our guides which are updated on a regular basis, I believe we are now on version 44 which was updated in November 2020.
6 - You can download zoom on most platforms including MacBooks. You have full control over your mic and video camera if your device has one. I have used Teams a number of times but you do need to play with it to get used to it. I am not sure if the course will be published on the forum, but if you do not turn your camera on then no one can see you. I did participate on a course a few months ago at B&W it was very good, mics and cameras were turned off we could only hear the presenter, you could raise your hand, turn on your mic ask your question then turn off your mic or you can type a question.

Hi Olympia, just to offer encouragement, I am really not the most techie and I can manage Zoom. The usual procedure is that the organiser will email you a link to click on and a password, often six numbers. Alternatively if you received the link by text you would open zoom on your computer or whatever you use, then copy the meeting ID into the box. Either way it takes you through quite sensibly, you will get a message telling you you are waiting and the Meeting Host will let you in soon. Generally the host can choose to mute everybody [little red icon of crossed-out microphone appears] but if you want to unmute you must click the icon to unmute.
About your Q3, don't forget to add your NI no on the top edge as with every single additional sheet of any type that you send. Best wishes, Denby
