ESA + PIP - reporting worsened "changes" to DWP was created by AlexBloomsbury
I am in the Support Group for ESA and have the maximum points for PIP re conditions I have had for many years plus one diagnosed just before the last PIP reassessment.
Last week, however, I was diagnosed with cancer and, whilst I haven't had the full treatment plan yet, things will be very bad. It's mouth cancer which means that my speech is just starting to be affected and, of course, when I have the operation (+ chemo, radiotherapy etc.) my circumstances will be radically affected.
Question: I know I'm supposed to tell the DWP when I have a change in circumstances but what really scares me is if I'm supposed to fill in more forms - will I have to do this? I'm very frightened especially since the operation is likely to be very soon and I won't be able to do anything!

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Alex
I'm sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis.
Your post implies that you have an enhanced PIP award already - and therefore as you know you can't gain any more money. The DWP are mostly concerned about when people improve, or when it means they may have to pay out more money to a claimant. Therefore you may want to hold back on informing them for a while until you have had your operation and you know what sort of care plan you have. Then when you are able to, you can inform them of your diagnoses, your hospital stay and what it means for you. (The amount of detail is up to you). You will need to emphasise in the letter that you are only reporting it as information for their records not as a 'change of circumstances'. (Change of circumstances forces a new assessment - which you don't obviously want.) There is no form you have to fill in to do this.
