"Would a change of Government have any bearing on this i.e. Did Labour indicate they would reverse those proposed changes?"

Hi synapse321

Regarding your question above you could certainly have a look on the Labour Party's website but in practical terms I don't think this will help you very much! This is not a party political point but I think most people know that what parties promise before an election and what actually happens if they then win that election can be an entirely different thing! Additionally of course after Labour lost the last General Election they changed leader. There is not likely to be a general election for several years. W
ho knows what the Labour Party manifesto then will or won't say about UC? There are too many uncertainties here imo to be able to rely on what the Labour Party - or indeed any other party - says now what they will do if they win a general election in several years time!

Kind regards

Mr B

Sorry, I'm piggybacking the original question, but the answer it might offer clarification to others in my own situation!

Does anyone know what would happen to those in receipt of CB ESA and PIP, would they be transferred to UC too? (No other benefits apply i.e. no WTC/CTC or Housing/Council Tax benefits.)

Hi Ghirl#1

The first thing to remember is that PIP has nothing to do with UC, therefore there will be no change in your PIP.

UC replaces 6 means tested benefits:

~ Child Tax Credit
~ Housing Benefit
~ Income Support
~ income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
~ income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
~ Working Tax Credit

CB ESA is not means tested but based on your NI contributions therefore you will remain in receipt of CB ESA until you are next reviewed, if you pass the review then you will remain on it.

Hi synapse321

CB ESA is not a means tested benefit, it is dependant upon your NI contributions and therefore you will not migrate to UC. This is one reason why we ask members what type of ESA are they receiving, IR or CB ESA.
