Change of circumstances was created by Carol
Good morning, I wonder if anyone can help please. I've received the enhanced rate of care and mobility for three years and it was extended to 2022 due to Covid. However my conditions have worsened, I am awaiting my feeding tube to be replaced surgically as I have permanent nerve damage there. I'm awaiting a picc line , have fibromyalgia and a damaged right lung due to several bouts of pneumonia and sepsis. My mobility is poor and I get anxiety , depression and now ptsd as my husband of 27 years left due to my illnesses. I worked in the medical profession for over 40 years but due to all this I had to give up my work after having had so many surgeries. My worry now is that I was advised to inform the dwp of the worsening of my conditions and they received this on 22/12/2020 but today someone told me that because I have done this and was already on the enhanced rate I could lose my benefit so of course I'm now very anxious over this as like many here the waiting is so stressful as is the fear of losing it. I'd be very grateful for your help. Thankyou.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Carol
I'm sorry that you find yourself in this situation. Obviously, it's very stressful. The DWP do always say that claimants should inform them of any changes in condition. Some people do and some people don't. Often people don't say anything when they are already on enhanced rate - because it makes no difference to what they are paid.
However, you have informed them. I can't tell you exactly what they will do. I would expect them to ignore your letter and just add it to your file. I would not expect them to try and reassess you at the current time, but I can't say categorically they won't.
You would only have your benefit cut, if they were to reassess you and decided you no longer needed the support.
If this is going to worry you, then you should phone the DWP and ask them if they are acting on your letter.

Thankyou BIS for your reply, I appreciate it. I will give them a ring as the only extra information I sent regarding the change was a letter from the consultant confirming that my conditions sadly will never improve but could only worsen over time. Thankyou for your help.
