Tribunal award renew process

My PIP claim was due to end in November and I wrongly assumed it would be extended due to the pandemic because I had not received a review form. But then I received a letter 3 months before my claimed ended inviting me to start a new claim.

I did not expect this so close to the end date of my existing award. There was a lot of panic, and I submitted everything as quickly as I could with the help of privately funded support. I know how long new claims take even without a pandemic.

It is now the 16th of January and since November, I have lost my blue badge, access to my supports and had to deal with a serious relapse. I cannot manage without the PIP income and the passported services.

I thought I did everything expected of me, and I acted on the letter as soon as I could. But now I have no idea how long I will need to wait in the long decision queue with no PIP award.

They obviously extended the existing awards because there would be a backlog due the pandemic? But even without that in mind, why are they only informing claims with decisions by a Tribunal to reclaim only 3 months before the award expires with a hard end date, when normal reviews are sent a form at least 6 months before? Am I wrong with that information? If I am right, that part does not seem fair.

I am quite frightened about my ability to keep up with future benefit processes, it is hard trying to stay informed as benefit issues cause a lot of distress. I cannot even phone to check up on my claim because I no longer have access to the support that enabled support with phoning.

The benefit processes are far too hard to cope with. I know other people are struggling with similar issues right now and I hope they know they are not alone.

Hi neverfun

Unfortunately we are coming across situations such as yours quite frequently, I saw 4 enquiries on the forum yesterday regarding similar situations and some claimants were not given any warning, they only found out when they received no benefits in their bank a/c and phoned DWP to find out why.

Some claimants have had success in speeding things up once their MP's are involved but again this would depend on how proactive your MP is.

Your Blue Badge would not have stopped when you PIP stopped unless it coincides with your PIP renewal date, a Blue Badge usually lasts for 3 years.

Thank you for the reply. It is really sad what is happening to people, and I guess I am fortune to at least have some warning. The stress must be even worse to suddenly find out they are not getting PIP.

My blue badge did end. I applied for it with just over 2 years remaining on my PIP award, so the end date was the same as my PIP end date and I didn't get the full 3 years. I can't reapply until my PIP award is reinstated.

I might write to my MP, but I am just really low on any energy to see it through.
