PIP EXTENSION was created by Sangita
Dear all,
I received a letter in October 2020 telling me that my PIP award had been extended until December 2021, a relief to say the least. However, today, January 27th, I received a PIP review form to be returned by the 19th February. Please could you tell me that if I'm unsuccessful in my review application that my payments will automatically stop? I contacted PIP, but have been given conflicting information.
Thankyou for your help,
Sangita

Hi Sangita
A lot of people have been given extension letters only to then receive a review form. You need to fill this out and send it back. You can ask for an extension to fill it out if necessary.
If you were not given enough points to get a standard award for with care or mobility, then yes your payments would come to an end.

Thankyou for your reply.
My award for PIP was due to end on March 19th this year. The letter with the review form is dated January 19th so I'm guessing that's standard to send the review form 2 months in advance of the end date?
Kind of makes the extension letter meaningless, giving false hope to many from the anxiety these forms cause....although I guess that's dependant on how long it takes to process the review which may be longer than normal due to current circumstances.
Thankyou for your support

Hi Sangita
Actually, review forms officially are sent out approximately a year before the end date. In the past couple of years, it's been about six months - but a year remains the official line.
So your end date was extended by 9 months - and then you received your review dated 19th Jan - which is 11 months before your new end date.
I know it appears pointless, but if the DWP had stuck to end date of March 21 you may well have found that your form was not processed in time and you would have found yourself without any money.
So although it appears the DWP are being cruel to people - the idea is to help the DWP manage their backlog and ensure people continue to receive their money until they can process their claims.
