Pip planning a route was created by Elizabeth Mountain
I avoid going out to unfamiliar places, i tried to but overwhelmed by thought of it, I can use Google map to find route but am not able to get myself out and about unless local and familiar, even then forget necessary things like headphones tho stop meltdown due to sensory overload or to consider a journey with use of my Smartcrutches. Is this relevant to this activity.

Hi Elizabeth,

There are 2 elements to the PIP mobility award. The first deals with the mental and emotional problems with going out, planning and following journeys etc and the second deals with actual walking ability.
Unfortunately we can only provide general advice in this forum. There is lots of information about claiming PIP and mobility within the Members Guides.

Any difficulty that means you seldom go out or have difficulties whilst out means you may be eligible for points under the first section. I note that you have explained that you avoid going out because you are overwhelmed by it. However you have also said that you can get to familiar places on your own. Google maps does not fall within the definition of 'navigation aid' under PIP rules.
Try and write down the exact difficulties you gave either before going out, or en route. How do you feel, what help do you need, what would make things easier? Alternatively, if you receive help, how does this help? Think about what happens on the majority of days not the unusually good day. A friend/relative may also be able to describe your difficulties and put these in words. Once you think you describe your difficulties, see if you can match these to the various point awards within the PIP requirements. This exercise can be repeated across all the PIP activities.
If you need any additional help, then you could contact a local advice centre such as CAB. This link gives details or where to seek advice.
