ESA and pip assessments was created by Primrose
Hi ..
I have dementia and other degenerating illnesses, I have been in receipt of PIP standard rate for both for many years, even though I need constant care to function. I am in the support category for esa, no f2f or telephone assessment was needed due to my GP and dementia reports, however I need to have a telephone assessment for the PIP review. I am confused as to why this is needed? I have had help asking this question. Thankyou

Hello Primrose,
I am sorry to hear about your condition and am pleased that you have someone who can help you with things like this.
Why you have been asked for a telephone assessment for PIP is anyone’s guess, but it is within the rights of the DWP to ask for it.
However – you can write to the DWP and say why this is not reasonable. Do make reference to the reports you have already submitted, or better still submit them again with this request. Make it clear that you are asking for a paper assessment.
If this is refused another option is to ask someone else who knows you and your condition well to undertake the assessment for you. I recently responded to a question about this on these forums, so rather than type it all up again, it is here.
About having an Appointee or representative
Since you say that sadly your condition is degenerative you might wish to consider putting things in place like having an Appointee whilst you are fully able to be involved in the discussions and giving of authority.
I hope this helps and your that conditions stabilise.

Many Thanks Catherine..
I was just confused as to why ESA and PIP don't communicate? My Gp would be reluctant to send another form. I don't want an appointee at the moment my life is not good,I am trying to hold on to whatever I can.....sorry not able to communicate what I want to say..so shall go with the telephone assessment next week the best way I can and hope for the best....

Hi Primrose
Why do they not communicate? I have no idea - particularly since we know that they can.
I hope your telephone assessment goes well for you. I always advise people to have a friend with them, if only to make a cup of tea and share a moan and hopefully a giggle after the event.
I am sure you have read our recommendation that you record your assessment. If you are disappointed with the decision the DWP and you get the assessor's report, you can then use the recording to double check what wasreally said.
I too will be hoping for the best for you, and do come back to us if we can be of any more help.
