Excess savings after being payed backdated was created by Dwhit
Hi first post and P question.
Last year I feel into that group that had been re-accessed and had a backed dated payout of over £10,000.
Will that effect my benifits (pip/esa) now that I'm over the £6,000 saving limit, even though its backdated money?
If so how will it effect future payments?

Hi Dwhit,
I am delighted that you have finally received the money you are entitled to.
Payments of benefits arrears, paid as a lump sum, are disregarded for a year once you receive them. So this will not affect your current benefits, but will do in a year's time if not spent. Having savings will never affect PIP, as this is not means tested.
Hope this helps.

I would just like to add, that if your back payment was split into parts (mine was), then any payment of over £5,000 will be disregarded for the whole time you are on your current ESA claim. So it should be deducted from the total of any savings you have BEFORE they calculate your 'income'.
Hope that is reassuring for you
