Advice on Books. was created by SnF1
Hi,
My query is about two books that have caught my attention with regards to my situation.
The books are titled Welfare, Benefits and Tax Credit Handbook by Child Poverty Action Group and Disability Rights Handbook by Ian Greaves.
Has anyone ever read them and, if they have, what rating would they give them in terms of being essential reading for those wanting to know more about the benefits they are on, and more specifically about the breakdown of the benefit amounts that a claimant receives?
Any advice that anyone can give with regards to my query would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Sean

Hi Sean,
Both books are very good!
CPAG is perhaps more legalistic, whereas DHR gives a lot of information in a more easy to read manner. Both books get up dated every year, so make sure if you get one or both, make sure you get the latest version.
I am not sure if you are a claimant or advisor. My initial go to book is DHR, and if I need more detail, then CPAG book.
The DHR book also gives practical examples, and in my opinion has a better index.
If you wish to know more about PIP/ESA/UC, have a look at the members guides.

I hope this helps.

Hi Sean
Both books cover benefits in general, if you are looking for specific information on disability benefits such as PIP ESA/UC then the guides on the forum are very good.
I use both books you mentioned, I use the DRH as a quick guide, written in clear English, this is by Disability Rights UK.
CPAG's Welfare, Benefits and Tax Credit Handbook is a lot more technical. For everyday use then I would recommend DRH, it is also nearly half the price of CPAG's
The new editions are not out yet but you can pre-order them, I believe they will come out end of April 2021, I have just pre-ordered both of them for myself, you can order both books from CPAG.
