Help with telephone assessment was created by Tenja
My daughter had to go on to UC from Income support it was a bit of a nightmare because doing this meant she had to declare looking for work - her husband not because he is her carer. She has a diagnosis of personality disorder mental illness and anxiety she relies on him to care for her and their twin girls [unplanned pregnancy] - They BOTH rely on me for paperwork etc. I helped her fill in the UC50 [with the help of your forms - which is a life saver] and now they are saying they want to do a telephone assessment. I will have to either go to her or her come to me - I will be breaking my shielding but also the lockdown but I know she will not do it without support the phone call this morning has put her in a state of anxiety - I have read a bit on here about the phone assessments but could you point me in the right direction as to what to expect on the phone call they say it could take up to an hour, to be honest I don't think she will last an hour can we ask them to break it up?

Hi JP
I assume from your post that your daughters children turned 5 years old which was why her IS stopped and she was asked to apply for UC. Does your daughter receive PIP?
The UC50 is divided into two halves; activities 1-10 are for physical issues and 11-17 are for mental health ones, you can receive a full award for either half.
Our UC/ESA Claim guide explains the criteria your daughter is being assessed against and how to explain her limitations. See page 135 on questions the assessor might ask.

If you need to take a break during the assessment ask the assessor, you may want to pre-warn the assessor when they start that you may need a break part way through.
What you are aiming for, is for your daughter to be placed in the LCWRA group, have a look at page 20 - 27 on the above link.
If you have more questions then please return to the forum and we will do our best to help.

Thanks for your response it is a bit complicated really. My daughter and her husband was on income support and they didn't want to go on to UC as the income support was in his name and as her carer they made contact to check he was receiving support. The pregnancy was unplanned and they tried to manage on the couple income support rate until the twins were almost a year old - when lockdown was relaxed I helped her apply for UC and different rules apply - she has to demonstrate she is getting prepared for work - the appointments even though it was a phone call stressed her out so much the work coach told her to go off sick - hence the health form - and yes she is on PIP and this was never without challenges even using your guides but since the last tribunal fingers crossed she has received it. I just have to get her through this telephone call now so was looking for the guidance which I now have so thank you so much
