PIP and work? was created by ST
Hi, Can I work and receive PIP at the same time? I've been very restricted by ill health from ME/CFS for the last 7 years. I had finally managed to get back to some part time work last year teaching yoga and although it was active it enabled me to be my own boss so I wasn't letting anyone down if I couldn't work. I would pretty much spend any time I wasn't working in bed/at home.

However I think I overdid this and deteriorated and haven't been working the last few months due to new treatment and my deterioration. I can't apply for ESA as I live with my parents (I had to move back home when I got ill) who have savings. I want to apply for PIP but don't want it to stop me being able to try getting back to work albeit it part time - is this an issue?

I know they might ask about work on the phone and I don't know what to say as I know they don't have a great understanding of the fluctuating nature of ME/CFS and the immune system. thank you.

Hi Becky

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.

Welcome to Benefits and Work .

Who says that you cannot apply for ESA as you live at home with your parents? You cannot now apply for ESA as it has been replaced by New Style ESA and Universal Credit but living with your parents does not stop you from claiming.

Yes you can claim PIP and work, PIP is not awarded because of the condition but rather the limitations that result and prevent a claimant from completing a range of everyday activities. Have a look at our PIP Claim guide for a better understanding of the criteria you will need to meet.
