Light Touch Awards. was created by Hughie
Hi
Sorry for igniting the light touch debate again. I am just hoping I can get some clarity on it all. I know the DWP are in the process of looking at awards for people who reach pension age and do not have the reality of their condition/s improving, but I still think there is something that has not been fully clarified regarding light touch reviews. Within the information I have read, it states that most of the light touch reviews will be to claimants of pension age, but (in my humble opinion), it seems to also leave an option for people who do not appear to have much hope of improvement regardless of age. Maybe I have looked at it all wrong, and maybe I am hoping against hope as I am 64 years old, and I have just submitted my review pack again, but having read the directives on this subject, I honestly believe they are leaving some of the decisions based on health prospects as opposed to being exclusively health and age prospects. Can anyone put me out of my misery by clarifying the actualities of this process? Thank You.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hello HughJulie,
You are right, Light Touch Reviews are linked to On-Going awards not whether or not the claimant has passed State Retirement Age.
So it is possible to be under State Retirement Age and be given a Light Touch Review.
Hope this helps give some clarity,
Catherine

thank you catherine. i just feel if you are in position whereas your diasabilities/conditions will only deteriorate (at any age) whats the point of keep being assessed. my first assessment was dec 2017. i was awarded standard on both for 3 years. me and my daughter (my carer)was stunned and angry. she kept at me to appeal but i was worn down and accepted. went to another assessment april 2019. this assessor had a lot more empathy and awarded me 4 years at enhanced on both (which we thought should of been awarded in the first place. but we still thought it should have been ongoing award. hence i have to go through it again. sorry for the lo

Freddey, I and I am sure thousands agree it is pointless. It's bad enough for you with a daughter old enough to be your carer; think of the heartache of parents like us the other way round, who have a tons better quality of life than our disabled adult children and wonder who will do their repeat PIP forms when we can't any more. And we see their conditions start to go downhill even in their 20s. The "point" is that IMHO as they say, the DWP rely on wearing people down like you were first time, because it is a political agenda to spend less on money for needy people to survive than they actually should spend. Far more effort goes into investigating alleged benefit fraud than on tax fraud, even though they stand to get more back on tax fraud I believe.
So tell everyone you meet about B&W and encourage them to fight for their just rights. We're fortunate enough to be able to afford a painter and he has gone away with a note of the B&W web address, his parents are on DLA and are working age so what a surprise, they are going to need this site sooner or later.
