Hi cat

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.

Welcome to Benefits and Work .

Most claimants start the PIP process off by making a phone call, once the call is made a PIP2 form is then sent out date stamped. You usually receive the form within 10 working days. You have four weeks from the date on the form to complete the form and return it to DWP, if you need longer to complete the form then contact DWP and ask for an extension, if you do not ask for an extension and send the form back late then you run the risk of your claim either being struck out or your claim will not be backdated to when you first phoned.

You have started the PIP process off by completing a PIP 1 form and sending it in, did you send it in by recorded delivery? You need to contact DWP and ask if they have received your PIP 1 form: PIP helpline 0800 121 4433.

I cannot give you a time as to how long a PIP 2 form takes giving the times we at present live in. You need to check that DWP have received your initial PIP1 form.

PIP is not awarded because of the condition but rather the limitations that result and prevent a claimant from completing a range of everyday activities. Have a look at our PIP Claim guide for a better understanding of the criteria you will need to meet.

Hi cat, just a little thought while you are waiting for the form. Depending on how well any medical evidence you have supports the things you are going to say on the form, after studying all the B&W guidance, you might want to start immediately keeping a diary. There are templates in the guide. You can focus it on areas where you have difficulty and it can be in any format that shows how often you have xy problem/s and how severely. As you can type it, you can make sure it gives a true and clear picture before submitting it, even if it starts out scrappy. Best wishes, Denby

Hi Denby

Do you mean to send the diary off with the evidence i have? I have letters from my Gp although they are brief i have my medical records and i have a letter from my renal consultant who has always gone above and beyond for me outside the renal, hoping that letter is a more detailed than my Gps. Also letters from my support. Thank you .

Hi cat, the diary is useful to show not only the difficulties you have doing the different descriptors, but especially for each one, if there is any variability, how many bad days to how many good days you have. To get points for being partially/completely unable to do something it does not have to be every day but a majority. So if you can eg shower unaided but only two times in a week, as seen in the diary, and the other days say eg 'no shower today due to too much pain' or eg 'had to have partner's help in shower as too much pain', having the diary acts as proof. It's also useful for noting after effects eg 'attended 10 min Drs appt which meant I had to walk 10 yards to car, friend drove me there, 20 yards into surgery, and back again, caused such pain and fatigue I spent the rest of the day lying on the sofa unable to do anything else such as prepare food'. These all link in to as you will see in the guides, about safely, reliably, to an acceptable standard, as often as necessary.
So if the diary so far is showing useful info of this sort, I'd send it in with the rest. You can always carry on and submit additional diary length later.
Hope this answers OK, Denby
