Hi Susan,
Welcome to Benefits and Work
I note that your full name is showing. In case you want to amend that please use this link:

It seems that you have taken all the right steps so far. Your UC claim should include a housing element, which is basically the equivalent of Housing benefit etc. That should hopefully be processed in due course.
If you can no longer work (either medium term or longer term) UC will provide extra money for this. It is entirely possible that you will have to fill out a form (you may have already done this, about various work activities that you can/can't do) and then have an assessment before DWP decide whether or not you have 'limited capability for work or work related activity'. If you haven't filled out the form, then check out the UC guide for helpful hints.
I will try to briefly explain UC. You may also be aware that UC is normally dealt with online- when things have to happen, or there is correspondence, this will be done via your online journal, so it is important to check this regularly, and action this as required. There is a fixed maximum allowance, according to whether you are a single person, or couple or have any children. Extra amounts are then added to cover housing costs, and depending whether you can work, and to what extent. If you have any other income or small earnings, this amount could then be deducted from your total. PIP is never deducted, so you will always retain the full value of this. UC also replaces Jobseeker's Allowance, so it provides benefit for those looking for work, as well as those who can not work through disability/ill-health. Under UC, you may have to meet certain requirements. ('Claimant Committment.' As long as you meet these requirements set down for your particular circumstances, and your circumstances don't change, you can remain on UC long term. Obviously if your circumstances do change, you will need to inform DWP, and your UC amount and/or requirements may alter as a result. If you don't comply with any of the requirements set down for you, there could be a sanction which could mean a reduction in what you are paid!
I note that you are receiving Standard daily Living PIP, which is great! This will entitle someone who looks after you, to claim Carer's Allowance, providing that they care at least 35 hours per week for you, and fit within the earnings and work hours limits. If you do not already have a carer then this is something you could consider. If you check out the members guides there is a lot of helpful information about all sorts of things!
I hope this helps.
