Light touch at SPA was created by Mac Baker
I am 67 years old and my current PIP award is due to end on 15th July, I reached SPA during this award which runs from 21/02/2017 to 15/06/2021. I have watched the Announcements about the introduction of ongoing awards with light touch reviews but over time they have become confusing. I have seen clear statements that all pensioners of SPA will now be on this system and yet still get varied and confusing responses to the question, can you please offer some conclusive advice for me?

Hello MB and welcome to the site.

A couple of quick things, if you have not already explored the place, you might find this link useful.

Welcome to Benefits and Work

And I don't know if you are aware that what could be your full name is showing. If you would like to change it, the instructions are here.

My full name is showing, how can I stop it.

And that is about the end of the clarity we are able to give you. Sorry about that. As far as I know there has been definitive statement, but it would appear that people over SPA with conditions that the DWP consider to be stable and unlikely improve will be given 10 year awards which a light touch review. We are yet to hear how these reviews will look. However, if the DWP consider there is possibility that your condition may vary there is no guidance that says awards should be long and/or not subject to the normal review process.

I would have liked to be able to put your mind at rest, but fear that that is not possible.

When your current award is reviewed, please may I urge you to use our guides to help you ensure that your submission reflects the issues you have with Daily Living and Mobility.

I got the form at the beginning of this week and phoned, I am now waiting for the review forms. To make matters worse I have since ben informed that I am also losing my Pension Credit which means that I will be homeless (no drama, fact) I have made several calls since, finally spoke to a caseworker who told me that I am not eligible for the light touch review because I took my original claim to appeal. The appeal changed my Mobility award to advanced but left Daily Living at Standard and their reasoning(conveniently) is that they may not alter an award made by the Court. I'm dreading my future right now and am running out of the energy to fight.

Hi MB

As you are over state pension age then the mobility component of PIP would not increase if your mobility deteriorated, as you are already in receipt of the enhanced mobility component, this this will not affect you. You have informed us that you are in receipt of PIP standard daily living component, this component could increase depending on the outcome of your assessment.

If you receive help towards your rent then this will still carry on, you will not be made homeless, as for your pension credit, I am guessing but you may have received PC due to a premium based on your PIP, if your PIP stops then the premium would be removed, if you are successful with your claim then you would get the premium back, and your PC.

So don't give up, if you have any questions come back to the forum.
