Upcoming PIP application and assessment help was created by Manic_Minotaur
Hello everyone, new member here but hoping somebody can provide me some advice or support.
I’m expecting to receive the PIP form about how my disability affects me in the post any day now, and with each day I grow more anxious about the whole process, but I’ve put off claiming what I may be entitled too for so long now I feel determined to fight through the fear and anxiety.
I believe I meet the daily living requirements as I need prompting/supervision to make even a simple meal most of the time as my depression means most days I simply don’t care about eating.
I need prompting to eat or drink for the same reasons.
I need supervision and reminders to take my medication as I regularly forget and sometimes don’t take it due to the side effects that it causes me, which results in further harm.
I need prompting and much encouragement to wash myself and get dressed as most of the time I’m too depressed to see the point in anything much less getting out of bed and getting washed and ready.
On the very rare circumstances I leave the house I need physical and emotional support from a trusted person in order to mix with other people, this is even more so true if there are people present I do not know or trust.
And I need assistance and prompting to make simple budgeting decisions because of my borderline personality disorder I am unable to prioritise important bills, and have gotten myself into extreme amounts of debt (I have just had a Debt Relief Order approved last month) and have had many consultations with StepChange yet I still need help and assistance.
I initially didn’t even consider mobility to be an aspect of the PIP claim I’m making but after reading some guides on this side I realised the DWP do take into account mental health conditions when it comes to this. I cannot follow a familiar or unfamiliar route without a close friend or somebody I trust to guide me physically and emotionally, the last time I tried I ended up having a panic attack and walking into the middle of nowhere which only aggravated the situation, I also have difficulty planning journeys and any change causes me significant anxiety, would they take this into account?
I’ve asked my CPN for a letter of support and explained to him why I believe the descriptors apply to me and asked for his professional opinion on the matter, would it help to get statements from friends that help/prompt/supervise me on a day to day basis? And is there anything else I can do to increase the chances of getting the award I deserve. I’ve put this off for so long and the thought of the appeal process terrifies me.
Sorry for such a long first post and thanks in advance

Hello MM,
You seem to be doing a great job in getting ready to complete the dreaded form.
Yes, supporting letters from friends who know you and/or help you are always good. They will probably not carry the same weight as your CPN's but all go towards painting a picture of the day to day problems which you experience.
I hope you spotted the reply to your other post which I put up a couple of days ago - I know how quickly posts get lost in this place!
