Mandatory reconsideration notice check was created by Katie
Hello I hope you can help. My husband had a letter earlier this year to say that because of a change in the law regarding the going out question they could review his previous decision and did we want them to review it etc. We wrote back and said yes, since then they wrote back last week and said he had been awarded the higher rate backdated to 2017 when the claim began and that the money would be paid into our bank yesterday (Friday 5th March) but the money wasn’t paid in so I called them yesterday and they said sorry but it had to be checked by someone else. Is this normal practice? I’ve never heard of it before? And can they change their minds about the decision now that they have wrote to us about it etc?
Many thanks
Katie

Hi Katie
Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.
Welcome to Benefits and Work .
It does seem a bit strange that the check had not been carried out before the letter was sent out but we are living in strange times. For any large sums of money DWP pay out, they usually carry out a verification which is why when you win at a Tribunal it takes up to 5 weeks before you receive your award.
They can always change their mind if when verifying the award they find an error, but they should inform you.
Fingers crossed you will find a lump sum in your bank soon. Remember depending on your circumstances if you are awarded the higher/enhanced rate you may also be entitled to additional premiums which should also be backdated to the same date in 2017, so seek advice from a welfare rights worker in your area.
