Hello

We are in tribunal phase for PIP and a member of our family is willing to write a letter about what care the person who is claiming PIP needs. I would like to know please:-

Who does the family member address the letter to? Would "Dear Sir of Madame" be ok or would it be addressed to the person who is claiming pip?

Would it be an idea for them to put "There" National insurance number on the letter also to prove that they are a real person?

Can a letter for pip also be used for evidence for a application for ESA even though the letter reference PIP in its contents.

Thanks in advance for you assistance.

Hi Waxing

I always use to "Whom it May Concern", but it doesn't matter. - your example is fine. Don't address it to the claimant.

They should put their name and address on the letter and sign it. Their NI isn't necessary and indeed I wouldn't put it.

The same letter for PIP, can be used for ESA is you want. However, just remember the two benefits vary. For a letter to be helpful to a claimant the writer wants to talk as close to the specific criteria that they can.
