PIP - Reading activity was created by Jim123
Hello.
I have always said i don't have any problems with Reading. I tend to follow the same routine each day which includes reading and writing. Reading is on my terms, such that if i receive any correspondence including DWP stuff, my father (i now live with my parents) opens the letters reads them through and tells me if i need to do something, in the past i have just left correspondence or even shredded it unread. In effect yes i can read , yes i understand. But i need prompting to read things which are important which i should be reading but which i am not motivated to read. I have mental health problems more so in the past post would trigger intrusive thought, and i suspect this and motivation ar the reasons i still dont read post until prompted/encouraged ..
Isthis anywhere near the 2 points required for prompting under this activity.
Best wishes - Jim

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Jim
We're not assessors and we don't know you, so we can never say categorically whether someone can score for a specific descriptor. In order to score for any of the criteria for reading you would need to show what condition you have that makes it difficult to read. You have made it clear that you can read and therefore you may well score zero points as you are able to read basic and complex information. (Complex is only two sentences in a claimant's first language). I understand what you are saying about the impact on your mental health - you would have to show that this has a detrimental effect on a consistent basis. An assessor may well argue that you choosing not to read, rather than you cannot read. You would need to show the severity of the impact to score.
