voluntary change from dla to pip at 65 was created by jeff
Can i voluntary change from indefinate award dla to pip at 65 years of age? The reason being
i intend to move to northern ireland and all their dla to pip has been done.
It would be better if i was in receipt of pip.that is if get awarded it!

Hi jeff,
I'm not sure why you want to voluntarily change from indefinite DLA to PIP. Firstly not everybody can get PIP after DLA, although the majority do. You have an indefinite award, although this doesn't necessarily mean absolutely forever, it is likely to go on for a while. I don't know if just because you move to N Ireland will cause any review of your benefit or trigger a transfer to PIP, but you could wait until this happens.
When do you receive your state pension? After this point you will only be able to carry forward whatever mobility award you have at that time, (or gained at any review at that time or consequent appeal.)
Please think carefully about asking to change from DLA to PIP.

thanks for your reply. The NI system is different from england ,I spoke to ni dept of communities earlier this year ,and was told all the dla to pip had been completed, if i was living in ni i would have to claim pip before my 66th birthday which is in october this year.otherwise i would have to claim AA. If i was on pip while in england, then i could transfer to ni. This seems easier that is why i mentioned could i voluntary apply for pip?To throw a further spanner into the works i recently read on the ni govt site that people on dla with lifetime award no longer have to apply for pip? im confused , i think i may contact ni again?

Hi Jeff,
Contacting them again seems like a really good idea - if you can move to NI and not have to apply for PIP at any point it would seem to be the perfect solution. I
If you do go down that route, can I suggest that you keep a copy of the NI government site page which says that, just in case you ever need to evidence it.

If you're over State Pension age
If you are already getting DLA and are over State Pension age with a life time award, your DLA will continue, providing you continue to meet the eligibility criteria. You will not be reassessed for Personal Independence Payment.
If you’re over State Pension age and haven’t received DLA or Personal Independence Payment in the last year, you may be able to claim Attendance Allowance instead

Thank you Lesley. I know that is how the system in England and Wales operates, but it would seem that it is possibly different in NI. Do you know which country was being referred to in that quote?
