backlog in assessing pip claimants was created by Mr Mervyn J Pratt
I have been told that if you have received your pip award through a tribunal you most put in a new fresh claim when it ends. But have been reading disability News Service which states there is such a backlog that payments will stop and it will be a long time before your claim is assessed . Your payments will just stop in contrast to claimants who have had there award just extended because of covid. Why are we discriminated against just because we won our award at a tribunal. Any help or information or advice would be appreciated.

Hi M
Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

It is true that most claimants who have won at tribunal do have to put in for a new claim at the end of the award. Normally the DWP will send out a letter asking a claimant if they wish to put in a new claim. If a claimant has heard nothing from the DWP and their award is going to end within 4 months I would suggest they ring and ask what is happening.
Clearly, this is very stressful as there is always the risk that it will not be sorted in time and people risk being left without any money, particularly in the current circumstances.
I agree the system seems unfair, but unfortunately, it is what happens.

I've heard on the forum here at B&W that if you are successful at the tribunal you have to make a new claim, but I didn't know about the rest.
My partner recently won his appeal & I wondering at what point are we supposed to make a new claim? It's so confusing as they sometimes review 3 months before the award ends, or 12 months before it ends, then there's the thing where they give us an extra 9 months with covid.
Apologies that I can't be of any help, or if I should've started my own thread on this.

Sorry BIS, I didn't realise you'd replied. Or at least you hadn't when I began typing, I must learn to type faster.

Bud
Don't worry about it. I often write a long reply to a post only to find another mod has posted theirs just before mine! LOL - it goes with the territory.

Hi
My PIP ended in December, it wasn't won at appeal. I had to make a fresh claim. Only had my telephone assessment last week.
The whole thing is a shambles.
