Tribunal and driving? was created by Carrie
Has anyone had any experience of a tribunal asking lots of questions around driving? I have just had one this week and a lot of their questions were about me driving my car they were also looking at my house and street on google maps and questioning things about where I park etc. I wondered if anyone else had any experience of this ?

Hello Carrie,
I have no experience of that at Tribunals, but using maps like that is something I do in the initial stages of helping someone complete a PIP2 form when we are trying to work out how far they can reliably walk.
It will be interesting to hear if other members have experienced this, and please do let us know the outcome of your tribunal.

Hi Carrie,
I have had instances where a tribunal has considered driving and Google maps etc. I also use Google maps. They are a useful way of showing how far people walk etc.
Did the tribunal explain its use of the maps and allow you to comment?
As for driving, there is a myth that because you can drive you can peel vegetables and remember to take pills etc etc. This not comparing like with like, but it still happens!

Thank you for responding. This is the first time I have used the forum and I have been checking back for a few days to see if any one has replied and wasn’t sure how it all worked. I’ve literally just worked out how to get to this post! But in the meantime I have just put the same question through again!! Sorry

Thank You for responding as you mention above about the vegetables this is exactly what has happened the I was on standard rate for both and had to fight and go to tribunall every time however my mobility and hands have got worse they say that because I can drive I can use aids both for vegetables and the bathing etc. The tribunal decided to keep the award the same but I don’t think it’s right so I am thinking of applying for the statement of reasons.

Hello Carrie,
Well done on working out how the forums work. It is confusing how a post appears to vanish when you initially put it up, only for it to reappear an hour or even days later. This happens to because in order to protect the site and keep it as the valuable resource we believe it is, every post is checked by a moderator before it become visable. it does meant that we are used to duplicate posts appearing, and no apology is needed!
if you believe that the tribunal got it wrong then yes, applying for the statement of reasons sounds like a good idea. It will also be sent to the DWP at the same time. I would advise you to also request the record of proceedings, since if you move forward and apply for permission to appeal to the Upper Tribunal this can include useful evidence.
