Functional Neurological Disorder was created by Carla11
I have just got the dreaded brown envelope from DWP with the shortened Award Review/How your disability affects you and it has sent me into a blind panic. I was diagnosed yesterday with FND - on top of pre-existing conditions of OA, Hypermobility, EUPD and Adenomyosis to name just a few. I am fearful that because it is a neurological condition that I will be penalised as they consider I am not in "real" pain. I have also not got a targeted treatment plan for this as of yet due to my current 3 days week intensive DBT for my mental health. I am struggling to cope with the unknown and have no idea where to turn for advice. Please can you help me?

Hi Carla
I'm sorry about your new diagnosis of FND. I know it's not easy, but don't start out assuming that you will be 'penalised' because of this diagnosis. It's far more likely that they won't even have come across it. For a condition to be even considered a claimant has to have had it for three months prior to a claim/and or review and for it to continue for the 9 months after. Now I'm sure in your case you have been waiting a while for the diagnosis so there should not be a problem. You can always put in a couple of quotes from here if you're struggling to get over how it impacts on your life rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/fnd/
Have a look at our guide on how to fill in your review form. The document you want is Guide to PIP claims and reviews. Look to the later pages. Take it one step at a time. www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants
