Hi, do the dwp (pip, lcwra etc) before the assessment,
actually read the extra supporting documents that you send them? I have sent a few recently but wondering if it's a waste of time.. Just a thought really as I've sent it anyway.
Thanks
CD

HI CD0912

It is never a waste of time sending in supporting documents, though some claimants might feel it is if they're not read. Whether they are read before any assessment depends on the health professional. Some admit reading to reading them after an assessment (which isn't satisfactory). If for some reason they don't read supporting evidence you will have the right to challenge any final decision that was made.

The DWP and assessment providers can (and sometimes do) argue, that without supporting evidence they have insufficient information to make a judgement.

Thank you BIS

How will we know if they have read it all? Is a case of just asking them and taking their word for it?

Hi CD0912

If you later request a copy of an assessment report, it will have a list of some of the documents that impact on the final decision. Some claimants get upset when all the documents they send in are not listed and assume they haven't been read. Sometimes that's an incorrect assumption and sometimes it's a correct one. They are supposed to read every document that comes in, but there is no way to get proof. Usually, during assessments, people can tell whether their assessors have read information by the way they ask the questions.

Hi CD0912, just in case you had not picked this up elsewhere on the forum, please do call DWP 48 hours after your assessment takes place, to ask for the assessment report [called PA4, but you don't have to say so]. Should you hit on a deceitful call agent who says no [unless you're in N Ireland], just sweetly end the call and try again.
Have a big cuppa and highlighter pens [oh and your own copy of everything] on hand when it arrives [chase if it takes over a week I'd say]. Then sit down and work through marking up anything n everything you find fault with. It is quite legit to write to DWP ASAP to counter anything that is twisted, missing or plain wrong. This can mean a good decision instead of a bad one.
Hope you don't need this advice but best be prepared. Think of the effort as possibly saving you an MR/Appeal...[did for our daughter]
Regards and best wishes, Denby
