PIP Review was created by mforbes25
Hello

I recently had a PIP review and have now lost my PIP and severe disability premium. I'm currently waiting for the health professionals report and I have a couple of issues that are niggling me that I hope someone can help out with please

My PIP assessment was only 24 minutes long(confirmed on my mobile), is this a exceptionally short reassessment time?
The health professional only asked me 4 questions relating to the 4 descriptors I could score on and asked no additional questions after I answered, she remained silent I either heard her typing or silence but near the end of the call she must have thought she muted but she was speaking to someone, I assume a child as she told them to go play on their computer before realising she hadn't muted herself and never said anything on resuming the call, should I use this against the professional in my mandatory consideration, how can she conduct a thorough assessment with her child present and not to mention data protection ramifications. Or should I complain to IAS or both? To be honest she was pretty cold in her interactions and I've had face to face reassessment previously and although not pleasant in terms of my health the person was always friendly and empthatheic especially if I got upset.

I'm trying to concentrate on my mandatory consideration right now rather than my mental health as the telephone consultation has really screwed up my anxiety and I'm feeling pretty low.

Thank you for reading

Hi Mikey

Twenty four minutes for a PIP assessment is shorter than I would expect and only four questions is unusual. However, I would have expected the assessor to explain why they were only asking you four questions eg - they felt it wasn't necessary to ask you others because you had sent in sufficient information.

The first thing I would suggest you do is to ring the DWP and ask for a copy of the assessment report (PA4). From this, you will have an idea of what the assessor has written and you'll know whether you are likely to have to put in for a Mandatory Reconsideration.

If you get this report and it is as bad as you fear, you may have a small window of opportunity to write to the decision-maker and challenge it. You should always concentrate on the areas that you expected to score greater points.

Although you can mention the assessor having a child there, (and I would do that right at the end) - you can also put in a separate complaint to IAS. You don't have to wait for the decision to do that now. Data protection is obviously an issue, but I would focus on the ability to concentrate if a child was there, did that cause a shorter assessment and therefore deprive you of the opportunity to give an update on your condition? Assessors are not supposed to multi task!
