Assessors report ??? was created by Leegee1
Any comments ,help,replies grateful..
How likely is it that a case manager reads through all supporting letters and pip form?
I received my sons DLA -PIP assessors report today... I had heard that these can be wrong BUT I did not think it would happen to us.
It has so many contradictions and wrong reporting..
One of the first major ones is... The assessor writes... My son answered all the questions .. was calm, able to answer in dept and reasonable time and had a good insight into his difficulties..
My son was not even in the same room when I took his assessment!!
I can go on...
Next steps please ..
All help welcome

Hi lou Gee
We often hear about poor assessment reports, and inaccuracies. This is yet another example from a long list! It is really unfortunate that you are now experiencing this first hand.
However, your description of what happened at the assessment goes somewhat further than a lot of the errors that are commonly reported. On that basis you need to make a formal complaint to whichever company was responsible fir the report.
Keep the complaint factual - bullet points are a good way to do this. Rather than list every error, try and group things together, giving one or two examples of the worst issues.
You may wish to send a copy if the complaint letter to DWP.
Theoretically the case manager at DWP should read everything! So, you send in everything and hope that this time he or she does actually read all the papers.
Whilst it seems a complaint is justified, the danger is that you get to have another assessment because the first was so bad! That said, if no one ever complains these inaccurate reports and the misery that ensues will continue.
I wish you luck!

Thank you.
I think I wouldn't mind another assessment if it came to it!
My son scored 4 on needing social support to be able to engage with others. The assessor wrote FH indicates problems and needs to be accompanied. He needs social support to reliably engage with others. Quote
Yet scored zero on communicating.
And Zero on taking a journey.
Does this seem completely contradictory to each other?
.
She even got one of his diagnosis wrong.
She states he has selective autism ... Which is a massive insult to the diagnosis and autistic community.
I did request a complaints pack 2 days after the assessment and before I even asked for the report.
Thank you for replying.

Hi lou Gee,
I am glad that you are in the process of making a complaint!
Just to clarify : my understanding of the abbreviation FH is functional history. This is normally what the assessor writes down about what you say about your normal day, often towards the beginning of the assessment.
There is a strong link between communicating and engaging with others, and usually points would be scored on both sections. It rather depends on why help is required. There is also a correlation between engaging and following journeys, particularly if you either don't go out so to avoid people, or you go out at a time when no one is about. That said, it is common that people with autism will score on all these activities.
I have never heard of selective autism, which sort of suggests you are only autistic when you choose to be. Obviously if I'm wrong and this is a particular condition, then it would appear that the assessor has made a new diagnosis for your son which would be inappropriate!
You haven't stated what qualification the assessor has. Unfirtunately another common problem is to have a physiotherapist or paramedic conduct assessments for people with either mental health problems or cognitive problems. And yes, apparently the training to do assessments is perfectly adequate in this respect!! Check who did your son's assessment, it seems that whoever did this lacked appropriate understanding of autism.
Have you actually had a decision yet? If not I guess it is possible that the decision maker will ignore the faults in the report. If not, then you will need to send in a mandatory Reconsideration letter. You can obviously explain the errors in the report.
Are you a DWP appointee? If so, it is another argument to include. Being an appointee, and going through the DWP ratification procedure ordinarily shows that the claimant can't do this himself, often due to poor communication, reading or maths skills. All relevant to PIP points!

I respectfully suggest that the disrespectful assessor does not know the difference between AUTISM and MUTISM. There is such a thing as selective mutism, we had a pupil with this in the school where I used to work in the learning support dept. One letter makes a whole lot of difference. Someone needs to explain this to that assessor. You and your son deserve a grovelling apology, though I don't hold out much chance of that.

‘Selective Autism’…. Yeah right……My HCP (2016) said I had ‘episodic’ Rheumatoid Arthritis (a chronic life-long condition with no cure).
As suggested below look up the Assessors qualifications, education, length of time practising etc. Mine had an Occupational Health degree which didn’t even need a Biology O Level as an entry requirement. Joy! And remember they have 7.5 days training…
Getting an ASC diagnosis ‘at all’ is a struggle/ minefield/ etc. If he gets extra help at school send in all that stuff too.
I have heard reports of them asking people with Down’s how long they have had it for?!!
At my last PIP Renewal (underway atm) I wrote a list of my conditions and explained what they all are.. …Speak to them as if they know nothing… and hopefully you will get there x
At the MR state that the Case Manager really needs to read ALL the info you have sent in.. including your complaint letter re: the Assessment.
Good Luck!
