ESA Support Group, should I be told how long for? was created by MrH2020
Hi I had a letter at the back end of April saying I had been placed in the support group for ESA and it would start on 6th July.
I cannot find anywhere on the letter to say how long I will be in the support group, I am 58.
I was going to call and ask but I thought that someone on here would be able to tell me how we find out.
As when I called last week to ask what was happening to my PIP claim within an hour I had a text telling me I have a telephone appointment next Friday.
I don't want to push my luck.
Thanks

Hello MrH2020,
ESA is an indefinite award, but is subject to periodic reviews. Which means you have it until you reach State Pension age unless they decide otherwise. That always makes my brain do a backwards flip.
How long it will be until they decide to review it will be based on whether or not they believe your condition is likely to improve.
I hope that helps just a little,
Catherine

Ah thats great, unfortunately I don't see my type of COPD improving and with all the chest infections I have had over the last 3 years and having to finish work hopefully they will not bother me too much.

My partner hasn't been assessed since 2012, God knows what the assessor put on the form but she told him not to worry as everything would be fine. She was one of the good ones. I'm sure I read somewhere that they can recommend that you don't get assessed again, but of course they wont tell you that for fear that this could bring you slight happiness.

Bud, and anyone else interested, just to clarify on NO more assessments. The ruling was made in 2017 to stop unnecessary assessments to claimants that would never improve, I fit it but never got exempt, also bear in mind this is a very stringent test to be ever exempt from further assessments.
If a claimant was granted exemption under this rule they was indeed told, and informed on their decision letter.
I've only every hear of a very, very small minority get this exemption.
All others that are NOT exempt will not know how long their award is for, these cases will only know by phoning the DWP and or asking them, or obtain your assessment form called the UC85 or ESA85 for those who had a telephone or face-to-face consultation.
Or ask the DWP for UC85A or ESA85A if your assessment was done on papers only.
Hope this helps anyone.
I was formely known as (GoingOffMyHeadWithThisGovernment) Won PIP November 2017 ongoing award HR both. Now kept and got my ESA Support group but took a while.
