Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hello Emma,
I hope you have read our PIP guide. Starting on page 89 there is a section on 'What happens at a telephone assessment during the coronavirus crisis'. (First link on the following page)
PIP resources
I would not worry about not being at your best when you have your assessment - you need to present yourself as you generally are, not how you would like to be or how you like others to see you. So if you are struggling - say so! And don't take extra medication to help you through it, it will only lead the assessor thinking you are capable of moving mountains in an unrealistic way.
I am hoping our members will now give you lots of personal experiences!

Hi Emma, have you got totally reliable, successfully rehearsed means of recording the assessment in place, or will you definitely have by the time it happens? [Remember it is not diplomatic to inform an assessor that you are making your own recording.] If not I would strongly suggest you consider calling to ask for it to be recorded. There is no telling in advance whether your assessor will be either competent or fair; they might be, but if they are not, it is too late to wish you had a recording afterwards. Without it I doubt we would have got our daughter's first or second enhanced-on-both awards.
best wishes, Denby

Hi Emma,
I totally agree with denby re asking DWP to record it, you may have to wait a bit longer for an assessment but you will at least have it there "in black and white" so to speak.
I had my telephone assessment yesterday and the lady I spoke to was lovely. She allowed me time to say my problems and appeared very supportive. This was totally different to my f to f assessment last time when the assessor appeared to be supportive but rushed the assessment and her report was full of errors / inconsistencies and contradictions. I eventually went to tribunal and won but it would have been so much easier if it had been recorded.
Another thing I will never get my head around is why when we are told "our assessors are fully qualified to assess disability" over and over again, but their report has to go to the Decision Maker "DM" or Case Manager "CM" I think they are now called, who sit in their High Castle with no medical or nursing knowledge and they decide what points to award you instead of the "fully qualified" assessor.
Anyway sorry for ranting, it just makes my blood boil sometimes.
Good luck with your assessment, but I definitely would have them record it as your proof what has actually been discussed.
regards

Hi I hope your feeling ok , I had my telephone call on Monday the 10 th at 10.30 , I had a witness in the room , and I recorded it myself , ok here goes , what a absolute joke , the telephone call was from a capita physiotherapist.... I’ve had 7 total knee replacements: 4 MIA’s ; & waiting on further operations to my right shoulder , & left foot& hip :: I have now been in chronic pain since 2007 , very depressed; and chronic arthritis, in both hips , I’m on 28 tablets per day ; just to try to keep the pain at a level I can control , so he started with basic questions , I had my pip form in front off me ; I instead of going through page by page ; he’s was jumping for different, questions; I had to stop him : told say he was confusing me , ( why not) just do each question as per form , during the interview ; I had to stop him as I was sick 3 times , due to the tramadol tables , I had the night before ; I the interview lasted 1 hour , I had the report sent to me by the dwp which required: once I had go through it I noticed that some question that I wasn’t asked had been filed in and answered by the physio : and made a telephone call to the DWP , and told them I all I got was ring capita to make a complaint, :: this’d physio didn’t no anything about my medical history : I will be seeking for further review, Good luck try not to worry
