Moving house - affect on benefits was created by Alicie
We are considering moving form the south east to the north west of the country.
My husband has been on Incapacity Benefit, and then on ESA and in the support group (contributions based) for over 20 years.
Will moving mean he has to move onto UC, or will it trigger a reassessment by the new benefits office in a new area?
Currently his next reassessment is set for January 2023.

Hi Alicie,
The simple answer is that because your husband is on contribution ESA there is no requirement to go onto UC. (It would be different if you were on means tested benefits. )
I hope this helps.

Thank you.
Does moving into a different area trigger a reassessment? His wasn't due for nearly another 2 years.

Thank you.
Just wondering whether you think that movingso changing benefit offices will result in a reassessment earlier than currently scheduled (2 years away).

Hi Alicie
Moving house should not bring forward a review date.

Hi,
Just read this thread - I'm currently on legacy benefits including ESA Contribution based and PIP standard rate for both care and mobility. I'm moving into another council area towards the end of June. My understanding and also the info I have been given from Citizens Advice is that I would have to apply for UC. Is this correct?
