Pip telephone assessment was created by Rick6056
After a sleepless night full of stress and anxiety, not good for someone with a serious heart condition at risk of sudden death. I awaited my 11.45am telephone call. 9.30 am I get a txt message to say assessment now cancelled. No explanation only to say a new a new date for assessment will be made in due course. To say iam angry would be an under statement. My worry is now that I will get a face to face assessment instead of telephone one.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hello Richard,
I am taking a deep breath before typing this because I share some of your anger, particularly given the build up to this non assessment.
When you are able to do so, I would recommend that you write to Capita, copying in the DWP, expressing your distress and explaining the impact their behaviour has had on you. In the same letter I would include a statement that you request a new assessment as soon as possible (and state whether or not you are willing to take one at less then 7 days notice).
They are only just restarting face to face assessments so hopefully you will get yours before they are really rolling again. Of course if there is a sound medical reason why a telephone assessment is safer for you, you should inform them of this.
I know none of that really helps, but please know I do hear and feel your frustration and anger at what has happened.

Thanks for the reply Catherine. I was on the clinically extremely vulnerable list so been shut away for over a year due to pandemic. A telephone assessment was ideal for me due to this. I am almost at the point of telling them what to do with thier benefits. I will when I feel able to write to them if only to voice my disgust.

Having given some thought to all this I am writing to dwp as you suggest. My thinking is capita knew on the 17th May that my assessment was going to be cancelled. As on that day they sent out a letter stating I had agreed to an assessment at short notice. which is a load of bull****. They have tried to cover thier backs by sending reminder texts everyday since the 15th along with a reminder letter. I am that angry it has caused me to have the worst angina attack I have ever had.

Dear Richard, I share Catherine's anger at this utterly unprofessional behaviour. Please if you can manage it, inform your doctor eg by letter [they will have to put it on your file this way] of what happened and why re the angina attack. I would request that the doctor write you a letter for DWP saying that it would endanger your life to be asked to attend a face to face. Send that in to DWP to put in their pipe and smoke too.
I would also start keeping a health diary with notes eg about effects of contacts you receive/don't-receive-when-you-should. The DWP should not be causing extra costs to the NHS never mind trauma to poorly people. Perhaps copy your MP in to your letter to the doctor and to DWP too, and Therese Coffey [Secretary of State for Work and Pensions]?
Best wishes, Denby
