PIP Review - Managing Toilet Needs. was created by MrFibro
Hi to all,
I have two queries!
1 - (incontinence) If i was being prompted or was reminded by family members to go to the toilet before example: leaving my home to say going to the doctors or to an hospital.
Would that be considered at scoring me higher points for this activity. Would this be viewed as having verbal help, support from others.
The frequency of this would obviously not be everyday, rather as often as and when i had to leave my home. and also the reverse having to come back home.
2 - Washing - bathing - showering.
Is the activity just about bathing showering in an un adapted bath/shower ?
Or is it also about using a sink to wash in ?
The reason my asking is, if one is in too much pain and is fatigued having to get into a bath or shower, but only can use a sink ( wash basin) does this mean the claimant can and would score points ?
As due to a physical health conditions this can stop the person from bathing - showering, hence the need only to be able to have a wash in a sink.
Thanks for your read in advance.
Regards to all.

Hello MrFirbospondodysthmatic,
If you need prompting to help you manage your toilet needs that scores you 2 points. If you need this prompting (as you say verbal help) every time you go out then that is 100% of the time. I do think however the assessor will look at why you need prompting and you can’t remind yourself. I clearly know nothing about your condition(s), so I apologise if this point seems ignorant, but it is a question that the assessor will be asking of themselves.
You are right about the showering / bathing, it is in an unadapted bath/shower. If you are in too much pain to use a shower or a bath then you clearly cannot do so, therefore if that happens more than 50% of the time, then you should score points. Do have a look at the section on this in our guide. It starts at page 41.

Hope this helps,
