Hello wondering if you can help me,

My wonderful has been caring for me for the last 15 years is now suffering severely from depression bipolar she has had this for about 30 years but but we thought we would not claim anything for it, my wife's mobility now is severely affected as well she's finding it very difficult to walk so we thought we should try claiming Pip for mobility as I feel my wife fit easily in this category I also know she would fit in mental health category very easily however we had not done anything with this in the past as we did not want to upset the cart with the benefits we were getting for me as my wife is my main carer. Last 4 years or so the local council had to step in and take over my morning care getting me out of bed shortly etc my wife still likes my breakfast and food throughout the day and look after me make sure I take my medication etc, at the moment my wife is getting paid £67 a week I think it is for my care.

About 2 weeks ago I had to call out my wife's psychiatric nurse for help with my wife's conditioned, what is she was here my wife told her we were thinking of claiming Pip mobility nurse said I told you 3 years ago you should claim Pip for health, said she would not only give us support you would fill up the form for her.

I get full care and mobility allowance myself can you see if if my wife starts claiming mobility d&o care for mental health is this going to affect the benefits she is receiving for caring for me. My Pip has been awarded an indefinite period I know that doesn't meen much these days.

Any information you could give me on your horse would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Hi spasm

I assume that you are below state pension age. Your wife claiming PIP in her own name will not affect your benefits although it may affect her Carers Allowance unless your wife can show that she does 35 hrs a week caring for you.

The question I would ask is, do you get any other benefits such as IR ESA? If you do then if your wife is successful with her claim for PIP (daily living component ) you would then be entitled to claim an additional premium called SDP and if your wife stopped claiming CA you would both be able to claim SDP premium.

Contact your local welfare rights organisation who can help you with your entitlements. You can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk

We are both below state pension age, but my wife claims carers allowance for me in her name, as she was advised to do this so that she would get her stamp paid.
I do get IR ESA. We hadn't even given SDP a thought.
I have written this for Spasm as he was very conscious of his spelling mistakes.
Thanks in advance for any comments.

Hi spasm

At present as your wife claims CA then you would not be eligible to claim SDP, but if she was to claim PIP and received the daily living component then she could stop claiming CA and you would both be entitled to claim SDP component providing noone else lives with you over the age of 18 and not in receipt of PIP DL component or equivalent.
