Pip review and DVLA question was created by wendysaff
Hi, I,ve just got my pip review and am worried about mentioning my anxiety in case they contact DVLA and take my license. I suffer with terrible spinal pain which over the past 5 years has caused terrible anxiety which triggers my fight or flight response. Can you give me any guidance please as my doctor's reports state that I now suffer with this. Thank you

Hello Wendy,
This is a difficult one. I have never known PIP to contact the DVLA, but I am always concerned about submitting evidence which could result in someone losing their license.
I know that at least sometimes the DVLA look to GP’s for supporting evidence (at least they did with my father), do you know what yours would say?
I know this is not an answer to your post, but I am approving it so that hopefully others will be able to shed some light on this issue.

Thank you for your reply. I have a letter from my GP about my scoliosis pain and anxiety but am worrying in case they say anxiety means you are unable to drive.

Hi Wendy,
I agree with Catherine - I'm not aware of DWP contacting DVLA.
Has your GP ever mentioned any problems with continuing to drive, or have you mentioned this to him?
I don't know how your anxiety affects you, if other road users and simply travelling on the road make you anxious then I guess that there could be a problem with driving. There is a legal duty to disclose any condition that affects your ability to drive. A GP has to disclose anything he is aware of. It is likely that if the GP knew if something he would speak to you first to try and get you to disclose information to DVLA yourself. (But GP can contact DVLA without your permission.)
Anxiety isn't a condition you have to disclose, unlike eg epilepsy. So, as long as you feel confident to drive then you can continue.
So I think it is unlikely DWP will contact DVLA, unless of course you write something on the form that absolutely raises concerns about your driving ability.
A more common problem ix the opposite issue. DWP will use the fact you can drive to confirm that you can do other PIP activities. Unfortunately the list of activities that per DWP can be done because someone drives is getting longer and longer and more and more bizarre!
Hope this helps.
