Changes in condition - pip was created by KPPurple
Hi
Hope someone can help. I have a visual impairment and recently seen my consultant. There has been a slight improvement in my visual acuity. However, I should mention I have a cataract and so visual acuity isn’t an accurate picture of what I see.
With the slight improvement I still experience blurred vision, colour contrast difficulties and reduced depth perception and difficulty with night vision.I also still can’t read print I have to listen to audio books etc.
I know I’m meant to update pip if there’s an improvement, but this improvement doesn’t change the difficulties I have or wouldn't change the pip descriptors which I scored on.
If anyone could advise if I should update pip, that would be greatly appreciated. My argument is the slight improvement won’t change the issues I’m experiencing nor change the entitlement that I currently have.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi KPPurple
Personally, I don't think you have anything to tell them. Trying to get someone with no knowledge of visual impairments to understand what a 'slight improvement' might mean is virtually impossible. As you say yourself it would make no difference to issues of your entitlement. I don't think this could be viewed as trying to hide anything - there just isn't a story to tell. Obviously, the final decision rests with you.

The only issues I’m concerned about is when it comes to renewal time they’ll ask why I didn’t inform them off the change in visual acuity. My argument is that although the visual acuity is improved . The cataract is still developing and causing issues with; depth perception, blurred vision - which affects reading, etc, and night vision. I’m on the high pip award for both components and it won’t change my entitlement. I don’t know if they’ll see it like that, as they seem to be focused solely on visual acuity.
