What should I do straight after PIP assessment? was created by May
Hello,
I did my PIP telephone assessment today (for conditions including Long Covid). I have looked over the guidelines document but I'm overwhelmed and I can't see what (if anything) I should do now, immediately after the assessment. I saw in another topic something about requesting a PA4 and don't know what that is. So my question is, what actions should I take now that I've done the assessment? Thank you very much,
Naomi

Hi Naomi
You can get a copy of your telephone assessment report by ringing the DWP. The number is on your paperwork. It's called a PA4 and it should be available 48 hours after your assessment (although some are taking a bit longer). If you are told that you cannot get your assessment report until after the decision - try and say that's not accurate, but if they won't budge - just ring again and try a different call handler. You are allowed to see your report.
Once you get a copy of the assessors report go through it carefully. I usually use a highlighter to highlight any inaccuracies, once you have gone through the report you then set out why you disagree with the assessor and try and match it with any supporting documents you may have sent in.
There is a small window for you to write to the Decision Maker before a decision is made but you will need to be quick.
Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;
Lastly, make sure that you understand the criteria that you are being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors.
If you have any further questions please come back to the forum.
