This is my first post here, so please forgive me if I'm asking something that's already been asked!

I switched from DLA to PIP 4 years ago and now have to complete the PIP review form. My question is about providing evidence - how important is it to provide evidence to send with the form?

I don't want to contact a GP and/or consultant at the moment - they are so busy because of covid and staff self-isolating. The main hospital in my area is actually closed to all but essential/emergency surgery because so many staff are off. There's no way they'd have the time or resources to write a letter just to keep the DWP happy!

(Besides, the DWP seem to ignore the evidence - when I applied 4 years ago I included a letter from my GP saying I had major mobility issues, but it didn't make any difference - I didn't receive anything for mobility!)

Hi Pam

I honestly can't actually answer your question. I know people who have been successful with no additional evidence, because nothing may have changed from their previous award. Others try to send something. The problem is that you can't send something that doesn't exist. Other claimants do have new evidence and send it in.

If you don't want to ask your GP or consultants then that is your choice (and some GPs refuse to provide any), but personally, I would still ask in the current climate. Not every single medical professional is involved in the fight for COVID and even though many have a backlog of work you can still ask.

Hi Pam, it is also worth sending a letter from someone who lives with you or knows you well detailing your difficulties and any help you need. Some people on the forum have also mentioned keeping a diary for a week to show symptoms and how this affects them .So evidence doesn't only need to come from health professionals to be useful. Hope that helps. Best wishes

Hi Pam, as An Ex Nurse says, a diary is good evidence though I have done longer than a week for our daughter's claims. I would certainly hope for better results with a decent amount of diary referencing the descriptors, than little or no evidence.
There are templates on here you can use.
Best wishes, Denby
