PIP TRAVEL ABROAD was created by woodsie
Hi!
I been trying to get a proper answer to this question.
Most answers say you have to tell PIP if you go on holiday;for any time period.
However the below is copied from the PIP handbook and in my opinion says that you don't!
Quite clearly stating tell them; "if you leave or intend to leave for more than four weeks"
So according to this document you can go abroad for less than four weeks without telling them!
Whats your opinion?
I hope to travel next year; as have rebooked twice since early 2020 as the pandemic rolls on and on.
I ask this question because after many years as a disabled person and now a pensioner;i just sick of being treated like some sort of criminal(i might as well wear a tag!!)
Thankyou for any response.

Within your Personal Independence Payment award notification we ask you
tell us if:
• you leave or intend to leave the country "for more than 4 weeks" (even for a
holiday of more than 4 weeks).
We do this to allow us to pick up claimants periods of absence to ensure that
they continue to satisfy the past presence test of being present in GB for 105
weeks in the previous 156.

Hello woodsie,
I am not sure what counts as a 'proper' answer, but I would say that the quote you included in your post makes it really clear that if you going abroad for less than 4 weeks they do not wish to know. It also makes perfect sense!
I would recommend that you do a little more research if you plan to go abroad for more than 4 weeks in any one year, even if it is split into multiple short trips. I simply don't know the answer to that.
I hope you enjoy your holiday!

Hi woodsie
You continue to be entitled to PIP, AA and DLA during a temporary absence (defined as unlikely to exceed 52 weeks) abroad for:
~ the first 12 weeks; or
~ the first 26 weeks, if the absence is solely in connection with medical treatment for your illness or disability that began before you left the GB.
AA Regs, reg 2; DLA Regs, reg 2; PIP Regs, regs 17 & 18
The above information is from Disability Rights Handbook Edition 46 April 2021 - April 2022 page 281 Chapter 56, 2 Disability Benefits.
I have also found the following Gov.UK link: www.gov.uk/claim-benefits-abroad/disability-benefits which confirms the above information.
