Telephone assessment. Dwp states shouldn't be done was created by craigdimarco
Hi. Apologies for the post.
I find things like this difficult.
I have recently been advised I am having a telephone assessment for my pip renewal.
After sending in 100 of consultants letters etc and proofs it seems unfair.
one.of the issue I have is dealing.with the telephone
Coincidently I sent in proofs of this from a psychology and a psychiatrist consultant. The letters were made long before I had my pip renewal and it states.i.could not.engage.in therapy over the phone.
I also do not have a telephone. The telephone that they contacted me through was.my mums mobile.
She contacted the dss to.state this and to enquire why letters clearly have not been read And they claimed that may have been the case. The dss also stated that this claim should have been dealt with via a paper review as its a renewal and with evidence around being clinically vulnerable on the phone. They stated they will send an email to the atos.or whomever is doing the telephone assessment doing.this.
So my question is what do I say to the assessor. , will I still have to take the phone call? Even though the dss stated they will send an email confirming what he stated?

Hello Craig,
This is a really tricky one. The problem is that I assume that you have nothing in writing from the DWP (DSS). If you refuse to take the call the assessors will bump it back to the DWP and if the person who then handles it does not see the record of the conversation you have had described they could simply refuse the award. If you take the call then it is possible that the assessor has not seen the email and will not believe you and insist on trying to conduct an assessment.
I THINK what I would suggest, if this is possible for you, is to get someone else to take the call on your behalf. Since the number you have given is your Mum’s then she would be the perfect person to this. She can explain everything you have put in your post. Additionally she should record the call so if needed you/she can prove it happened and what was said.
I fully agree that it is unfair, and I am sorry to hear that you have been put in this position.
I that helps a little,
Catherine

Hi Craig, they basically did the same to our daughter. But I phoned and asked for a case manager call back, I wasn't happy with the very jobsworth attitude of the first call handler that she had got to be assessed. So rather desperate I called back the same afternoon, and the woman was an angel. By the end of my call she had put a note on her file for them never to phone her again about anything and cancelled the phone assessment they had texted her about. And the case manager when he called back confirmed all that and said they would do a paper based, which they did.
So I hope that encourages your mum in calling them. By the way I do not even have official representative status but was able to give her NI No, date of birth, full name and address etc.
Best wishes,
Denby
